How to Apply for Accommodation

All social housing in Northern Ireland (except that which is let on a temporary basis) is now governed by the Common Selection Scheme which has been approved by the Department of Social Development.

To be housed by North and West
If you wish to apply to be housed by North and West you must complete an application form. The form is the same for all landlords (N.I. Housing Executive or Housing Association) and can be obtained from our main office at 17-20 Magazine Street, any Housing Executive or other Housing Association office.

Completed forms can be returned to either our main office, any Housing Executive or other Housing Association office.

What happens after submitting application form?
Housing Executive staff will visit you, assess your need and ensure that you are registered on the waiting list as quickly as possible. You will be assessed and awarded points according to your housing need. The number of points awarded will determine your position on the waiting list.

Support and/or additional care services
Where an applicant needs support and/or additional care services a supported housing scheme may be required. If this is the case you should inform the Housing Executive and such applicants will be placed on a separate, non-pointed waiting list.

While the majority of our accommodation is accessed through the Common Selection Scheme, there are a number of variations to this:

Accommodation and Training for 16-25 year olds
The Strand Foyer, Derry provides accommodation, training and employment opportunities for those aged 16-25.

Those wishing to apply to the Foyer can do so by obtaining an application form from the scheme.

Shared Accommodation
Clarendon Street, Derry provides shared accommodation (2 and 4 bedroom flats) which is furnished.

Anyone wishing to apply for this accommodation should obtain an application form from the Association's Head Office.

Accommodation for People with Addictions
The House in the Wells - Derry, Foyle Valley House - Derry and the Sheltered Help - Belfast schemes are direct access hostels for those with an alcohol/drug dependency.

The completion of an application form is not necessary. Those wishing to avail of these services can do so by presenting themselves at the scheme or by referral from another agency such as social services, NIHE, etc.

Accommodation for People who are Homeless
If you consider yourself to be homeless you should contact the Housing Executive directly. The Executive will provide advice and assistance and, in certain circumstances temporary accommodation, if you are homeless or threatened with homelessness.

Nursing Care
Applicants requesting accommodation at either of the Association's nursing care schemes at Daleview or Parkview can do so by contacting the scheme directly or through referral from social services.
