 Anti-Social Behaviour

What is Anti-Social behaviour?

Life is not always easy.  There are times when residents have problems with their neighbours.  Those problems may be down to misunderstandings or to behaviour that annoys or disturbs others.  Such behaviour is called Anti-Social Behaviour.

Anti-social behaviour can cover a wide range of behaviour, from low level noise nuisance to serious harassment.

Some examples of anti-social behaviour include:

• Hate behaviour towards individuals or groups of people because they are perceived to be different
• Violence or threat of violence
• Noise nuisance (for example, rowdy parties, playing music, TV or radio too loudly)
• Vandalism & Graffiti
• Domestic violence
• Parking vehicles inconsiderately, abandoning vehicles or creating nuisance from vehicles.

Who can report Anti-Social Behaviour?

Anyone can report anti-social behaviour, where the behaviour involves or affects an Apex Housing property or tenant(s).

It is important when reporting anti-social behaviour that you provide as much detail as possible, such as the time and date of the incident, who was involved, where it happened and who was affected by the anti-social behaviour.

It may also be necessary for you to report the anti-social behaviour to another agency such as the PSNI or local Council.

What will Apex Housing do with my complaint?

We will:

• Record your complaint
• Carry out investigations which may include:
  -  interviewing all people involved
 -  where appropriate consult other agencies

If the complaint is clearly a housing matter such as a breach of tenancy conditions then Apex will deal with it.  If there is more to it than that then we will refer it on to the appropriate body.  Where appropriate we will agree an Action Plan on the way forward with you.

Depending on the seriousness of the anti-social behaviour one or more of the following actions may be taken:

• Issue warning letter
• Offer mediation
• Seek Acceptable Behaviour Contracts (ABC’s)
• Instigate legal action
